The awards ceremony enjoyed widespread media coverage given the high quality of the prize winners, guests and other individuals who supported the initiative.
Their Royal Highnesses, the Prince and Princess of Asturias, presided over the prize ceremony, which took place in the Arriaga Theatre in Bilbao on the 20th May, 2008.


The choice of prize winners was entrusted to a Jury of 13 individuals of recognised eminence and sensitivity to the concerns of young people.
The winners of the first Novia Salcedo Prize for Excellence in integrating young people into the workforce were:
Peridis, for his work promoting craft schools and restoring historical skills and techniques, a process in which young people have played a leading role.
EgaMaster, hand tool manufacturer, for its human resources policy, committed to bringing young people, and particularly women, into the workforce.
The Erasmus Program, for its exemplary action in promoting the professional integration of young people, Europe-wide and internationally.
